MOULTONBORO — Leonard M. Plaisted, 97, of Winaukee Road died Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at the Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia.

He was born in Ashland, Sept. 20, 1907 the son of the late Arthur N. and Grace (Maloon) Plaisted.

Growing up in Meredith, he attended the local schools. At the age of 16, in 1924, he started working at Camp Winaukee on Moultonboro Neck. He became full time Maintenance Superintendent at Camp Winaukee in 1946 and retired with over 70 years of service to the camp.

Moving to Moultonboro in 1947, he was a lifetime member of the Moultonboro Fire Department and the Carroll County Fire Wardens Association. He was a 20 year Boy Scout Leader of Troop 142 of Moultonboro. He served on the Moultonboro School Board for six years during the planning and construction of Interlakes High School. He also was a charter member of the Moultonboro Historical Society and the 50 Plus Club.

As the oldest resident of Moultonboro, he was awarded the Boston Post Cane on January 17, 2005.

In addition to his remarkable career at Camp Winaukee, he worked in ice harvesting, lumbering, log transporting, as a plumber, as a short order cook and in the Maple syrup business. Additionally, he worked at the quarry in Meredith, was a part time police officer, made skis at the Land Ski Shop in Laconia and worked on the Weirs Scenic Road and the Meredith Post Office. He built knitting machines at Scott and Williams and did forestry work in Rumney and Warren areas. Lastly he worked on a dam on the Connecticut River and melted lead for linotype at the Meredith News.

He was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy (Colby) Plaisted in 2003. He was also predeceased by nine brothers and sisters.

Survivors include four sons and their wives: Roderic Plaisted and wife Dorothy of Kissemee, Fla., Richard Plaisted and wife Gloria of Moultonboro, Stephen Plaisted and wife Andrea of Dayton, Ohio, George A. Plaisted of Manchester; one daughter and her husband, Judith Haracz and Gary of Albuquerque, N.M. and Moultonboro; nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one great grandson; several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, June 6 at 11 a.m. at the Moultonboro Methodist Church, Route 25, Moultonboro. The Rev. Edward Charest will officiate. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Burial will be in the Middleneck Cemetery, Moultonboro Neck Road, Moultonboro on Monday at 2:30 p.m. If desired, donations may be made to the Moultonboro Fire Department Scholarship Fund, P.O.
